The short answer

Most professionally built small business websites in Australia cost between $3,000 and $30,000. Larger custom builds with a lot of content run $30,000 to $50,000 or more, plus running costs of roughly $25 to $500 a month depending on the platform.

Type of siteTypical cost (AUD)What you get
Template or theme site$3,000 to $10,000A professional theme set up with your content, usually 5 to 15 pages
Custom-designed marketing site$8,000 to $30,000Pages designed around your brand, with a CMS your team can update
Larger custom CMS build$30,000 to $50,000+Many page templates, complex content, integrations and motion

What moves the price

  • Unique page designs. Ten pages built from three templates cost less than ten pages each designed from scratch.
  • How much runs on a CMS. Team profiles, projects, articles and filters take more planning and build time, but you can update them yourself afterwards.
  • Content. Copy, photography and video are often the hidden cost, and waiting on content is the most common cause of delays.
  • Branding. If your logo and visual identity need work, it’s best done before or alongside the website, not after.
  • Motion, integrations and ecommerce. Custom animation, booking systems, CRMs and online stores all add time.
  • Who builds it. A senior designer costs more per hour than a template shop. You’re paying for experience and judgement, and it usually shows in the result.

What it costs to keep running

The build is only part of the cost. Budget for running costs from day one.

Ongoing costWebflowWordPress
Hosting or site planAbout $25 to $80 a monthAbout $15 to $100 a month
Plugins and licencesUsually none$0 to $80 a month
Updates and securityHandled by Webflow, no plugin patchingCare plans run about $100 to $500 a month

On either platform, ongoing design help usually runs $100 to $200 an hour, or $500 to $2,500 a month on a retainer for businesses that update their site often.

What a DD Design website costs

Most Webflow websites I design and build cost between $10k and $60k+ (plus GST). Every project is a fixed fee agreed upfront, with a 50% deposit and the balance split across milestones. Most take 10 to 16 weeks.

That puts DD Design at the custom end of the market. You work directly with a senior designer who plans, designs and builds the site, with branding, motion, photography and video available in the same place. If your budget sits below $10k, a well-chosen template is a sensible place to start.

How to get an accurate quote

  1. Know the goal: more leads, bookings, sales or credibility.
  2. List the pages and content you need, and who’s writing it.
  3. Share two or three websites you like, and say why.
  4. Ask whether the quote is fixed, what’s included and what the running costs are.
  5. Check who actually does the work, and who you’ll deal with day to day.
